Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching

Description

The ARPIT makes teachers improve every year.

Education is dynamic; the dynamics of education are filled with new technology, new syllabi, and new methodologies; even as a practitioner, one has to upgrade learning and unlearning so as to be in tune with modern trends. The only way this can come to par is through learning, and training as even the teachers have been seen to be subject to it. This makes the ARPIT very necessary.

ARPIT stands for Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching. As Indian government Ministry of Education runs a program of regular training to teachers at the higher education level so as to keep them up-to-date in the subjects and enhance better teaching.

ARPIT was begun to prove that technology allows one to get quality education available for everyone, everywhere. Earlier, once teachers were in service as teachers, they received meager possibilities for continuous learning or retraining. Today’s teachers, however, must remain current in their content areas; be informed of trends; and employ innovative methods in the instructional settings.

This necessity was felt by the Indian government and ARPIT was launched in 2018 to provide subsequent courses for teacher’s practices.

Mechanism for Actualizing Teacher Training Through ARPIT

What is it that ARPIT offers teachers?

Every year, online courses are facilitated on a variety of subjects like Science, Commerce, Humanities, Education, Management, etc. from some National Resource Centres.

These courses can be taken by any teacher teaching at the college or university on the SWAYAM platform.

There are video lectures in the courses, reading materials, and further a series of quizzes followed by homework.

After the course has ended, the teachers take a test given by the National Testing Agency (NTA) that ensures quality.

Teachers are provided with certificates according to their grades, deemed equivalent to mandatory in-service refresher courses to advance them in their career lines.

ARPIT Advantages for Teachers and Educational Institutions:

There are several advantages of ARPIT for teachers and educational institutions:

1. Accessibility: ARPIT courses can be accessed by teachers from every nook and corner of the country using mobiles/computers connected to the internet.

2. Up-to-date Information: Teachers are changing over time. ARPIT will enable teachers to learn updated knowledge in their area.

3. Improves you as a teacher You get to learn new instruments, technologies, and methodologies for helping the students learn better.

4. Facilitates promotions The universities or colleges accept the ARPIT certificate for promotion and career development.

5. Flexible learning Teachers can learn at their convenient timing without quitting their jobs and without enrolling in any classroom.

Every program has its share of problems, and so does ARPIT:

Some teachers are unable to understand the online learning platforms.

Access to the Internet is still a problem for the people residing in the rural areas.

Balancing work with studies can be quite cumbersome.

It’s not every teacher that knows ARPIT or knows how to enroll for the program.

All these are subject to subtraction through help and knowledge.

Who Can Be a Part of ARPIT

ARPIT enrolls any professor or teacher from any college or University. Age is no bar to it and can be of use to a fresher assistant professor as well as an experienced senior professor.

There is no fee for this course. A little expense is only to be paid that would be for NTA test registration if a teacher/guide wishes for a certificate.

The future of ARPIT program

ARPIT will probably increase in the coming few years. More subjects, features that are user-friendly, and perhaps even live sessions or workshops digital skills, research methods, and modes of involving students will also matter.

The aim is to ensure that every teacher goes on learning throughout life.

Conclusion

The Annual Refresher Programme in Teaching represents a quantum jump towards cleansing the teaching community of India in a strong, updated, and competent way. It helps to catalyze teachers’ careers for better teaching and enhanced learning experiences for students.

ARPIT is no mere programme; it is a need in a fast-changing world. The teachers are society’s backbone and as they grow, so does the nation. They motivate their students to keep learning by learning something new each growing year.
